*thursday giveaway*
*Ok.. Call me crazy! Mitch and I are building a house in the next 2-3 years and it has become my obsession. I have an entire folder filled with pictures of what my future home is going to look like. I may or may not have sub-folders for every single room? Let's just say I have LOTS of Ideas! As of late I have been concentrating on the Home Office. I found this AMAZING website as I was searching for computer desks for home offices. It gave me lots of inspiration and plenty of pictures to fill my "home office" folder.
*So what does this have to do with my Thursday Giveaway? Let me tell you... CSN is sponsoring a giveaway on my blog. They are graciously giving away $25 credit to use at any of their 200 Online Stores!
*All you need to do to enter is answer one of the following questions and leave me your name and e-mail so I can contact you if you win. The winner will be chosen One week from TODAY! These questions are a few things I'm having a hard time deciding with, so YOU are all going to help me! (I have lots of questions so if you want to answer more than one, PLEASE do so)
1-What color of trim (crown molding?) and baseboards would you do or do you have?
2-Which is better, Gas or Electric Ovens?
3-Hardwood or carpet in bedrooms?
4-I know this seems silly but I've seen both brown and white doors for the bedrooms and what not, which one do you think looks better?
5-Hard wood or tile for the Kitchen floor?
6-Is it worth the money to get heated floors in your house?
7-What decorating style do you have? (I'm traditional)
Ok Bloggers, comment away! ANYONE can enter this giveaway if I know you or not. And I seriously can use all the feedback I can get so help me out! And in return you could win $$! It's a win win situation.. So get commenting!

Roz this is cool:)
2-Electric, and make it a flat-top one stove. They are so much easier to clean! The gas ones things fall down in the burners and its really annoying/hard to clean, but the flat-tops are amazingly easy!
5-kinda depends on if you decide to get the heated floors, but if you don't then the hardwood floors don't get nearly as cold as tile!

Ok I'll go first. How exciting btw!! A gas range will cook more evenly, and is probably more energy efficient. I will always use electric because they make me feel safer w/ kids, you know? My little man loves to help in the kitchen and electric feels safer to me.
Will your house be in Idaho or cold weather? I recommend carpet in the bedrooms, it's quieter and then your feet won't be freezing in the morning:)
Yay for your dream house!
Hi Roz. My name is Sarah, I am your favorite friend in our hygiene class. For the floors in a kitchen- DO HARD WOOD! Tile sucks! I have had it 3 different ways- tile, wood floor and linolium. Do hard wood! Hands down! Easier to clean and they look So good!
:) love ya girl!
1-white
2-gas
3-carpet
4-white
5-hardwood
6-no
7-mormon look hehe
Good Luck!
2. I had both on my mission. I liked the gas stove well enough, but I definitely prefer electric ovens. I'm not sure what it is, but gas oven just wasn't nice. You can't really broil the same way and things don't really brown so it can be harder to tell when something is done. I definitely prefer electric ovens.
3. Again, both on the mission, I definitely say carpet. I hated hardwood floors in the bedroom. It was cold on your feet in the morning and also dirty. If you do have hardwood floors you need a rug next to the bed to wipe your feet on before you get into bed.
We have white crown and 5" white baseboards, love them both. I say tile in the kitchen with minimal grout line. Carpet is nice for kids but at the same time they destroy it ;) gas stove for sure you can control your cooking so much better! We just bought a house and redid everything!! I'll post pics soon on my blog. Love, Heather Brandow
Roz! It's so fun to build but it's a TON of work. We just built our own place and we love it! So here are my 2 bits about your wonderings
1- we have white trim and baseboards (no crown because we have vaulted celings) everywhere and I LOVE it...it makes the house look feel clean.
2- we have a gas range and I like it better than electric...it heats things faster and more evenly, the one thing i don't like is cleaning the burners. food gets burned on way faster with the flames right there. bust i still like gas better than electric.
3- I would definatley say to get carpet in bedrooms...to me it feels warmer and cozier that way, plus when you have kids learning to crawl and walk carpet is a softer fall.
4- We have white doors for the same reason we have the white trim...
5- In a kitchen I like hardwood (we have pressed hardwood and it's real nice too and less expensive). Tile always seems harder to clean and thats the last thing you want in a kitchen.
6- we don't have heated floors and our feet stay plenty warm...so i would say that's not worth the extra money.
Good luck with the house! The decisions are so so so hard but so much fun. and remember that you will never get everything you want in a house...i had to learn to make some cutbacks because everything adds up real quick, but you can always do updates later on. Have fun lady!
First off, you crack me up!!
I have white trim and love it, our house is all hardwood except the shaggy new carpet in all the bedrooms, which I think is the way to go and much more comfortable. Definitely hardwood in the kitchen as well. I have large tiled/ heated floors in both of our bathrooms. Personally I think it's a little impractacle to have heated tile, but I can't complain since I have used it. I think rugs in the bathroom are smarter. The people that had our house before us had them put in and it costed them 8,000 for just the master bath flooring alone since they had to dig into the foundation.
Have fun designing!!
1- i like white best, then you can paint the walls whatever color you want!! 3- carpet for sure!! 5- i love my hard wood floor...i would recommend it! This is fun!! You should share some of the great things you have found for your dream home! CAnt wait to win some $$!

So I have had tile in my house and in many rentals we have lived in and I HATE IT. It is TERRIBLE to clean. The grout is a bugger to clean and I feel like I am having to mop every day for it to look nice. Go Hardwood! I have been told that hardwood scratches very easy by all my friends that have it and they have told me that they wish they did laminate wood floor . . just for that purpose because of their kids. I'd go white doors and trim (Though Jess's looks really nice with the wood. tough call) Definitely carpet in bedrooms. You dont want those babies hurting their knees. . and that'd be cold unless you invested in a ton or rugs. Where are you guys building at? Is Mitch in school?
Thanks everyone I'm loving your comments, keep em coming! But we are building in Idaho right by Mitch s parents. and nicole, Mitch is not in school right now, just working to put me through!
How fun Roz. My style is super tradtional/classic, borderline boring--haha! So take my opinions with a grain of salt. ;) I would say white for baseboards and molding unless you are really wanting to carry out a stained feel through the whole house. My sis-in-law did it and it's awesome but her house has more of a cabin feel to it and the wood runs through the whole house. I've never used a gas stove so I just prefer electric. For bedrooms I think carpet is better--more comfortable/homey. I would choose white doors--more classic. I think either tile or hardwood would look great in the kitchen, it will just depend on which look you love and what fits with the rest of the house. Have fun and good luck!! :)
Im jealous... building a house will be so much fun!!!
1- we have some friends that did their baseboards and doors a shad or 2 darker then their walls. They are a brownish color and it looks awesome so I was suggest going darker.
2-I have never had gas stove so I have to say electric with a flat top.
3-I would do carpet it kids rooms but hardwood always looks nice.
4-again I say darker doors
5-Hardwood for the kitchen. I have tile and the grout sucks. Plus ours is textured so it has to be scrubbed alot to get the dirt out of the groves.
6-no idea on the heated floors or not. IT would be nice thats for sure!
7-im very traditional.
GOOD LUCK with it all! Thats so exciting!
Yay- free $.
Okay, this is fun! And you're smart for planning out what you want in a house instead of just looking for houses and buying whatever. Now that we've bought our first house, I know what I want and don't want in a house.
Here we go.
1 - we have white trim, but I've seen a taupe-ish color of trim and it looks good. depends on the color of your wall. BUT white is easier because you can change the color of your walls without changing your trim color too. Plus it's more traditional.
2- GAS! It is so much better than electric because it heats up your pan evenly and QUICKLY! Electric takes a long time.
3- Carpet in bedrooms because it's soft and comfortable.
4- The door color depends on your style too. I think white can be more modern/contemporary. My parents have light brown real wood doors that look awesome!! And I think that would make the home look more traditional.
5-Hardwood for the kitchen. We have tile and I hate it! We're already planning on putting in hardwood in a couple years- when we have the $. Tile is hard to clean because dirt gets caught in the grout, and the grout itself gets nasty. We even treated the grout so it wouldn't stain, but it still gets dirty in the heavily used areas.
6-I don't think heated floors are worth it- just use rugs or wear socks.
7- I lean toward traditional, but I like modern/contemporary too. I have a little bit of both in my house.
And then, as far as the layout goes- make sure you put the kid's rooms away from the family room and kitchen. That way they can sleep and you can still have friends over, watch movies, and hang out. Our kids' rooms are right by the fam room and kitchen, and I hate it. Also, the master bathroom shares a wall with Ty's bedroom wall, so I'm always afraid to be too loud while he's sleeping.
Fun fun, someday I hope to design a house too!!

Oh- sorry one more thing- I would pay extra for upgraded trim that is like 5" or so... looks custom and nice!
:) Roz I love this! How fun, I am always thinking of my dream home.. and you have inspired me to start collecting things!
1. I like white basebords with a THICK white molding! Although I've seen some with just a dark stain that look really nice.
2. As for the stove, I've cooked with both and have learned to like them both. Though I've been told that gas stoves cost more.
3. Short carpet with slightly shaggy rugs!
4. White looks good with the white molding. And I know you didn't ask but go with brown for the front door ;)
5. Hard wood. Because I love the contrast to some big white antique looking cabinets.
6. In Idaho YES! Just think about cooking breakfast on a cold morning with out it!
7. I'm not really sure where I fit in.. I like to mix old with new!
Hope you, mitch and school are going good! Miss you girl!
Abby I have a question.. our floor plan doesn't have a basement just the main floor and upstairs but I always worry because the master bedroom is on the main floor and all the other bedrooms are upstairs, and I always wonder if it would matter having your kids be clear upstairs and us be down. Do you think that will matter? What do you all think with kids...
Wow, have enough questions? I can't wait to help you decorate your beautiful house. I'm pretty sure by then I'll be a professional decorator so you need not to worry about anything...can you say carpet in the kitchen? J/K!! Remember the carpet in the kitchen in our old house? I totally think you should go for that look-HOT. I love the tile in my kitchen. It would be pretty easy to clean if I had a steam mop, but whatever. I would do a gas stove-easier to clean. If I had my way I'd do heated floors in the kitchen and bathrooms-either that or have vents right where you stand so it's warm. Also have a spot on the floor at the sink where it massages your feet while you do your dishes and a heat lamp to keep cinnamon rolls warm. Depending on the kind of trim you have in your house I'd match the doors finish. Oh and don't forget while doing your giveaway that I can supply you with kitchen, door and bath hardware AND lighting...just sayin... :0)
Roz I had the same layout problem when looking at town homes. Because with a new born getting up to feed in the middle of the night its hard enough having them in a different room. But you could always just plan on having your babies in your room till they sleep through the night. Growing up my parents room was down stairs and us kids were upstairs which my dad liked cause he could hear us coming down the stairs at night- no sneaking out! ;)
Hardwood floor in the kitchen.
If you want tile in there somewhere you can add it to the laundry room. The master on the main floor will add to the resale value later when/if you guys decide to move. White and brown baseboards is both a fan of mine, it just kind of depends what you do on wall colors. I took a design class last semester and I love it! I am also a traditional, at the end of semester we had to design our own house and I did it traditional with a flare of shabby chic. loved it!
